OCFD eBook:  Practical Tips for Building OCFD Antennas

A practical guide to building an Off-Center-Fed Dipole antenna for your QTH.

FORWARD

This purpose of this book is to highlight the critical points, both positive and negative, necessary for building an efficient Off-Center-Fed Dipole that not only “works” (i.e., enables you to successfully make contacts), but also has greatly reduced Common Mode Current (CMC) when transmitting, as well as when receiving.  As a result, this design is often much quieter (on receive) than most other “Windom” and OCFD antenna designs.

“Technology” is not the focus of this book.

Instead, “hands-on construction” is the main focus, and will be explained in detail, but only after highlighting the do’s and don’ts, critical to successful construction of the antenna.

It is the author’s opinion that 99% of the (coax-fed) “Windoms” and/or OCFD antennas ever sold commercially or built privately, have had one or more critical mistakes.  These mistakes will be pointed out in this book, with links to online supporting material, should the reader be interested in understanding the technology better.

Links to any web site other than the author’s own are shown with the assumed consent of the owner of the web page, since they are publicly available on the Internet.

The goal of this book:  is to help YOU build your own antenna that optimizes the OCFD's strength and minimizes its weakness.   The antennas shown here within have been built hundreds of times and work (as shown).

If you get creative and add your own "improvements", there is no guarantee that it will work as it should; especially if your changes are to the BALUN!
